Xela – Sustainable products of Latin America

Description

Last year I took part in a local Startup Weekend in Bremerhaven, Germany. This series of events provides the opportunity for anybody who wants to start a firm to find partners and dedicate 54h to the development of your idea. At the end of the weekend you have the opportunity to pitch your project infront of a jury and investors. At this event I got to know Jorge one of the two founders of the Xela brand and a local student. Under the slogan “Lebe bunt, denke nachhaltig!” which roughly translates to “Live colurful, think sustainable” they started building a small brand for sustainable fashion produced in Latin America.  We worked together over the course of the weekend on further developing the project, which partners up with locals in Guatemala to produce fair traded and individual products through recycling traditional dresses. There aim is to suport local communities and projects and provide locals with the opportunity to earn fair wages. In the future personalized products like shoes will also be available. There online shop is still under construction but will be linked here as soon as it is online.
